# Skeleton Tie-Up Version of Step 2 - Create the Tie-Up and Treadling for 6 Treadles

If you have a 4-shaft loom, chances are you only have 6-treadles. The method outlined here for Step 2 will perform the interleave and a allow a skeleton tie-up.  You'll use features of both Overlay and Interleave in the Weft. &#x20;

Open the results of the interleaved threading as completed in step 1. The draft is included below for your convenience.

{% file src="<https://3801852105-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LvDkg_itZXfSAjm0jwH%2Fuploads%2Fschn9VFsl5kzvXyPvCHR%2FStar-Step1.wif?alt=media&token=8a6d1ec8-6f43-45a5-a0d6-4b2c68965f72>" %}
Interleaved Warp and Straight Tie-Up
{% endfile %}

First, a small draft that looks like the tabby treadles will need to be created. The threading and tie-up really don't matter, but the alternating treadles are important to have as shown below. The draft, TabbyDraft.wif is included for download.

<figure><img src="https://3801852105-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LvDkg_itZXfSAjm0jwH%2Fuploads%2F22MTr56lq9zrVa0EgagN%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=7d889630-54d6-4ff2-a3ec-be48e24ede31" alt="" width="147"><figcaption><p>2-Treadle Draft Tabby Draft</p></figcaption></figure>

{% file src="<https://3801852105-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-LvDkg_itZXfSAjm0jwH%2Fuploads%2F8FKxoUYeBX0jY9tCJbh5%2FTabbyDraft.wif?alt=media&token=04184ae9-9abf-4a86-9ddb-75595ac89831>" %}

Open both the Tabby Draft .wif and  Star-Step2.wif  (draft with the interleaved threading and 4 treadles with straight-draw tie-up).&#x20;

With Star-Step2 in focus,  from the Design Menu select the Combine Weft function.  In the Combine From window, select the TabbyDraft.   Select **Overlay**, and change **Shift Right to a 4**, **unclick Wrap and Interleave Color.**&#x20;

This action will add the treadles 1 and 2 in the From Draft to your draft as treadles 5 and 6. So every weft pick will now have what looks like tabby treadles alternating on treadles 5 and 6 overlayed on the pattern picks.

Add the tie-up on Treadles 5 and 6 as shown (treadle 5 tied to 2 and 4, treadle 6 tied to 1 and 3).&#x20;

This is the result (also included as Star-Step2a.wif)

After Interleaving the Tabby Treadles with Overlay
{% endfile %}

Now, there's just one more step.  The next one is to interleave the original treadling with this new draft.  The original treadling will be weaving the top layer, and the newly generated 6-shaft draft (Star-Step2a.wif) has the treadling sequence for the bottom layer.&#x20;

For this final step, you need to have open in TempoWeave the newly created Star-Step2a.wif and a draft with the original treadling (this can be either Star-Step1.wif or Star-OvershotOriginal.wif).

With the the newly created draft (Star-Step2a.wif) in focus,  bring up the Combine Weft box on the Design Menu. &#x20;

**Interleave** must be checked, there is no shift on this version, and the Wrap can be unchecked (although there would be no wrap in this example anyway).

Click Apply and Accept. &#x20;

Use Color Repeats to alternate colors in the warp and weft and you are ready to weave! &#x20;
