TempoWeave Mobile: Quick Start
A short tour of the things you'll do in the first fifteen minutes. For deeper topics, see the full guides at docs.tempoweave.com.
What TempoWeave Mobile is
TempoWeave Mobile is the iPad, iPhone, and Android companion to TempoWeave Studio. It opens the same .twa and .wif files as the desktop version, drives the same TempoTreadle device, and shares the same cloud library.
The three things you'll do most:
Explore and edit drafts — full drawing tools, colors, and design operations, wherever you are.
Weave with the Weave Assistant — follow your treadling pick by pick at the loom, hands-free with a TempoTreadle (TT3) sensor or advancing by tap.
Thread with the Thread Assistant — thread your loom in groups with big, readable heddle discs.
First launch
When the app opens with no draft loaded, Browse Drafts appears automatically. You'll find:
Four sample drafts already on your device — a towel, doubleweave placemats, a colorful 16-shaft scarf, and a full project with photos and a write-up. Tap Open on any of them and start exploring. They're yours: edit them, use them as starting points, or delete them.
The public cloud pattern library — drafts shared by weavers everywhere, free to browse and open. No account needed.
Tap a row once to see details (thumbnail, shafts, treadles, sett); tap Open to load it.
Opening and creating drafts
Everything lives in the ☰ menu (top-left), under FILE:
Browse Drafts… — your device library and the cloud library in one list, with search, filters, and tags.
Open Local Draft… — the system file picker, for
.twa/.wiffiles stored anywhere else (Downloads, iCloud, Google Drive, email attachments).New Draft… — set shafts, treadles, warp ends, and weft picks, pick a starting palette, and tap Create.
Each open draft gets a tab above the canvas; tap a tab's ✕ to close it. Closing the last draft returns you to Browse Drafts.
The draft surface
Threading (top), Tie-up (top corner), Treadling (side), and the Drawdown — the woven preview — as the main canvas, with color strips along the warp and weft edges.
Pinch to zoom. Two-finger drag to pan.
The ✋ pan toggle (top bar) makes one-finger drags pan too — handy when you're zoomed in and don't want to edit by accident.
Edit modes
Three modes share the top bar — only one is active at a time:
Read (default)
Neither pencil nor paintbrush engaged
Look without changing anything.
Pencil ✎
Tap the pencil
Tap cells in the threading, treadling, or tie-up to edit the structure. The drawdown updates immediately. Pick a drawing tool (Freehand, Straight, Point, Line) from the Tools panel.
Paintbrush 🖌
Tap the brush
A color palette appears. Tap a swatch — its name shows beside the strip — then tap warp or weft threads to recolor them.
Tap the pencil or brush again to return to Read mode. Undo ↶ / Redo ↷ cover every edit.
The panels
The panel buttons (bottom of the screen on phones, side rail on tablets) open tool panels: Home, Project, Design, Tools, Yarns, and View — draft operations, common weaves, the yarn catalog, fabric and 3D views, and more.
Saving
☰ → Save saves the draft in place. New drafts ask for a name the first time and are saved into your TempoWeave library — the same list Browse Drafts shows.
☰ → Save As… saves a copy under a new name (or, via Choose folder…, anywhere on your device).
Your library is also visible in your device's file manager: Files app → On My iPad/iPhone → TempoWeave (iOS) or the app's folder under Android/data (Android).
☰ → Export WIF… writes a standard
.wiffor exchanging with other weaving software.
Saving, exporting, snapshots, and cloud uploads unlock when you sign in with a TempoWeave Studio license (☰ → Sign In…). Viewing, browsing, and all the design tools are free for everyone.
Weaving with a TempoTreadle
The TempoTreadle device (TT3) attaches under your loom's treadles and reports each press over Wi-Fi, so the pattern advances hands-free.
Open Weave Assistant and tap the ⚙ gear.
Tap Set Up TempoTreadle… and follow the wizard — it finds the box on your network, or walks you through joining the box to your home Wi-Fi the first time.
Once connected, tap Done and weave: press a treadle, and the assistant marks the pick and shows the next one.
No TempoTreadle? The Weave Assistant still works — advance picks by tapping, and use the same counters, chimes, and section tracking.
