TempoWeave Mobile: Quick Start

What TempoWeave Mobile is
TempoWeave Mobile is the iPad, iPhone, and Android tablet companion to TempoWeave Studio. It opens the same .twa and .wif files as the desktop version, drives the same TempoTreadle device, and shares to the same cloud library — but pared down for at-the-loom use rather than heavy draft authoring.
The two things you'll do most:
Read and edit drafts at the loom — adjust colors, tweak section markers, advance picks by hand.
Weave hands-free with a TempoTreadle III (TT3) System Unit— the device monitors the loom and advances the on-screen pattern as you treadle.
Opening a draft
When the app starts, you'll see an empty workspace with a toolbar across the top.
Open from your device. Tap Open (folder icon) → pick a
.twaor.wiffile. iCloud, Google Drive, and local storage all work.Open a recent draft. Tap Browse Drafts to see drafts you've recently worked on, ordered by date.
Multiple tabs. Each draft you open gets its own tab strip along the top. Tap the + chip on a tab to duplicate it for experimenting; close with the ✕.
The draft surface shows four panes:
Threading (top, above the drawdown)
Tie-up (top-right)
Drawdown (the woven preview — the main canvas)
Treadling (right, beside the drawdown)
…with color strips along the warp and weft edges.
Getting around the draft
Pinch anywhere on the drawdown to zoom in or out. The pattern anchors to the rightmost / topmost visible thread so you don't lose your place.
Drag the warp / weft headers to scroll the drawdown — works even when you're not in edit mode.
Tap the zoom chips (top toolbar
−/+) for one-step zoom; the current cell size shows between them.Pick input (top toolbar): type a number and tap Go to jump to a specific pick.
Section selector: if the draft has marked weft sections, pick one to constrain navigation to that range.
Edit modes
Three modes share the toolbar — only one is active at a time:
READ (default)
Neither pencil nor paintbrush engaged
Tap a thread or pick on the headers to see thread/yarn/section info in a floating bubble. No changes are made.
Pencil ✏️
Tap the pencil icon
Tap a cell on the threading, treadling, or tie-up to edit it. The drawdown updates immediately.
Paintbrush 🎨
Tap the brush icon
Tap the active color in the palette strip, then tap a warp or weft thread to recolor it.
Tapping pencil or brush a second time returns you to READ mode. Bottom bar shows which mode you're in.
Pairing a TempoTreadle (first time only)
The TempoTreadle device (TT3) attaches to your loom's treadles and reports state over Wi-Fi. First-time setup is a wizard:
Plug in the box and wait for its OLED to show the device name (e.g.
TempoTreadle-C668).On your tablet, open Weave Assistant (top toolbar).
Tap ⚙ Settings → Setup…
Pick your box from the list.
You'll see two options:
Use this box — start weaving immediately on the box's own Wi-Fi. Fastest path. Your tablet won't have internet access while connected — fine for a session.
Configure Wi-Fi — walk the box onto your home Wi-Fi so you don't have to switch networks every time you weave. Recommended if you'll use this device often.
Once paired, Weave Assistant remembers the box's address. Next time, just tap Connect.
iOS note — the first time you open Setup, iOS will ask for permission to use the local network. Tap Allow so the wizard can find your TempoTreadle.
Weaving with the assistant
With the box connected:
The green dot next to "TempoTreadle" in the settings panel means you're paired.
Press a treadle on the loom — Weave Assistant advances to the next pick automatically.
The Treadle overlay (toggle with the Treadles pill on the toolbar) shows which treadles are pressed in real time and highlights the next pick's expected treadles.
The battery chip beside the ⚙ shows the box's charge level. It turns amber at 20%, red at 10%, and chimes once at the critical threshold.
Tune mode (⚙ → Tune) lets you calibrate the loom's treadles before your first session. Use this if presses aren't being detected reliably.
Useful per-session toggles
Large Treadle Overlay (⚙ → Display): fills the screen with much larger text and cells. Good for low-vision use or weaving from across the room.
Treadle Mapping… (⚙): remap which physical treadle corresponds to which WIF treadle, disable broken ones, or silence the color-change chime on the tabby treadle.
Auto power-off (⚙): the box deep-sleeps after this many idle minutes to extend battery. Default 60. Tap any button on the box to wake it.
Saving and sharing
Save writes back to the
.twayou opened. Drafts, section assemblies, color metadata, treadle mappings, and Weave Assistant progress all round-trip cleanly.Save As lets you keep the original untouched and write a new file.
Cloud → Share Pattern uploads your draft to the TempoWeave cloud library. You'll get a share link weavers anywhere can open in Studio or Mobile.
Tips and gotchas
READ-mode tap on a section band shows the section name, location, and thread count in a floating bubble. Tap somewhere else to dismiss; it auto-fades after a few seconds.
Magic Keyboard / trackpad on iPad: hover behavior mirrors the desktop tooltips. Hover a thread for full details, including yarn and section info.
Selection mode (top toolbar): select a range of warp threads, picks, or tie-up cells, then use the Selection menu for Copy / Paste / Clear / Fill operations.
