# Weaving with the Assistant

The TempoTreadle device (TT3) attaches to your loom's treadles and reports state over Wi-Fi. First-time setup is a wizard:

1. **Plug in the box** and wait for its OLED to show the device name (e.g. `TempoTreadle-C668`).
2. On your tablet, open **Weave Assistant** (top toolbar).
3. Tap **⚙ Settings → Setup…**
4. Pick your box from the list.
5. You'll see two options:
   * **Use this box** — start weaving immediately on the box's own Wi-Fi. Fastest path. Your tablet won't have internet access while connected — fine for a session.
   * **Configure Wi-Fi** — walk the box onto your home Wi-Fi so you don't have to switch networks every time you weave. Recommended if you'll use this device often.

Once paired, Weave Assistant remembers the box's address. Next time, just tap **Connect**.

> **iOS note** — the first time you open Setup, iOS will ask for permission to use the local network. Tap **Allow** so the wizard can find your TempoTreadle.

### Starting to Weave

With the box connected:

* The **green dot** next to "TempoTreadle" in the settings panel means you're paired.
* Press a treadle on the loom — Weave Assistant advances to the next pick automatically.
* The **Treadle overlay** (toggle with the **Treadles** pill on the toolbar) shows which treadles are pressed in real time and highlights the next pick's expected treadles.
* The **battery chip** beside the ⚙ shows the box's charge level. It turns amber at 20%, red at 10%, and chimes once at the critical threshold.
* **Tune mode** (⚙ → **Tune**) lets you calibrate the loom's treadles before your first session. Use this if presses aren't being detected reliably.

#### Useful per-session toggles

* **Large Treadle Overlay** (⚙ → Display): fills the screen with much larger text and cells. Good for low-vision use or weaving from across the room.
* **Treadle Mapping…** (⚙): remap which physical treadle corresponds to which WIF treadle, disable broken ones, or silence the color-change chime on the tabby treadle.
* **Auto power-off** (⚙): the box deep-sleeps after this many idle minutes to extend battery. Default 60. Tap any button on the box to wake it.

### Saving and sharing

* **Save** writes back to the `.twa` you opened. Drafts, section assemblies, color metadata, treadle mappings, and Weave Assistant progress all round-trip cleanly.
* **Save As** lets you keep the original untouched and write a new file.
* **Cloud → Share Pattern** uploads your draft to the TempoWeave cloud library. You'll get a share link weavers anywhere can open in Studio or Mobile.

### Tips and gotchas

* **READ-mode tap on a section band** shows the section name, location, and thread count in a floating bubble. Tap somewhere else to dismiss; it auto-fades after a few seconds.
* **Magic Keyboard / trackpad on iPad**: hover behavior mirrors the desktop tooltips. Hover a thread for full details, including yarn and section info.
* **Selection mode** (top toolbar): select a range of warp threads, picks, or tie-up cells, then use the **Selection** menu for Copy / Paste / Clear / Fill operations.
