# Variable Density Support (cram and dent)

When a reed is sleyed at different densities and/or gaps are left in the reed for special effects in the cloth, there are tools to help with the design and sleying of the reed in TempoWeave Studio.

The Section Markers, normally used for Section Assembly, are used to mark the warp. In these sections, there is a Variable Density check box that opens up both the density definition for that section (ends per inch or ends per cm) as well as an optional gap to leave after the last thread of the section.

The gap is entered in inches or centimeters, depending on the unit of measure for the project.

The Printed report, Sleying Guide for Variable Density, gives a guide for the weaver to perform the sleying. The sley patterns are calculated, number of dents to be skipped for gaps are shown and other helpful information.

Please see the following video for an example of a draft that has been marked for variable density and the report for the sleying guide.
