Copy Draft Components

What It Does

Copy Draft Components copies whole regions of a draft — the entire Threading, Treadling, and/or Tie-up, with colors and thickness riding along — so you can paste them into any other draft in one step. Every chosen part lands at the origin of the target draft as a single undoable operation.

Carry a threading and tie-up into a draft that keeps its own treadling, move a color sequence between drafts, or stamp the same components into as many drafts as you like — the copied set stays on the clipboard until you copy something else.

The Dialog

Copy Draft Components presents a checkbox per component, all checked by default:

• Threading / Treadling / Tie-up — the structure regions

• Warp Colors / Weft Colors — the color sequences

• Warp Thickness / Weft Thickness — the thickness sequences

The All Warp, All Weft, and Deselect All buttons set common combinations in one click. Check exactly what you want to travel — unchecked components are left alone in the target draft. Copying colors alone (with no structure checked) works too, and pastes through the color strips.

On a liftplan draft, a note reminds you there is no tie-up — the treadling copies as lifts.

Pasting

Switch to the target draft (or open a new one) and paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V) — no selection needed. Every copied component deposits at origin: threading from thread 1, treadling from pick 1, tie-up from shaft 1 / treadle 1. The whole paste is one undo step.

Cross-mode pastes follow the same rules as regular copy and paste: a treadling copied from a tie-up draft converts when pasted into a liftplan draft, and vice versa. The one thing that can't convert is pasting a tie-up into a liftplan draft — a message explains, since a liftplan has no tie-up to receive it.

A regular copy (selecting cells and copying them) replaces the component set on the clipboard — the two share one clipboard, and whichever you copied last is what pastes.

Step-by-Step Example: Transplanting a Threading

You have a draft whose threading and tie-up you love, and a second draft whose treadling you want to keep:

1. Open the source draft and click Home tab > Copy Components

2. Check Threading, Tie-up, Warp Colors (and Warp Thickness if it matters); uncheck Treadling and the weft boxes

3. Click Copy — a toast confirms what was copied

4. Switch to the target draft and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V)

5. The threading, tie-up, and warp colors land at origin; the target's treadling is untouched

6. One Undo reverts the whole paste if you change your mind
