Sectional Warping Plan
What It Does
The Sectional Warping Plan is a printable (PDF) guide for dressing a loom with a sectional warp beam — the kind with pegs dividing the beam into fixed-width sections, wound from a spool rack one section at a time.
It takes your draft's warp (every end, in order, with its colour and yarn) and works out:
how many ends go into each section of your beam, given your sett and the width of one section, and
exactly which colors, and how many of each, to wind into each section — in the order they appear across the warp.
Then it lays that out section by section so you can wind straight from the report: fill section 1, move the rack to section 2, and so on, with no counting or arithmetic at the rack.
It's the sectional-beam counterpart to the Warp Winding Plan (which lists the same color-by-color winding order for a plain beam). Same warp data — just partitioned across the pegs of your sectional beam with a Section # column added.
Before You Start
You'll get the most out of it if your draft already has:
Warp colors assigned — the plan reads the colour (and yarn name, if you've named your yarns) of each warp end.
A sett (EPI/PPI) set for the project — this drives how many ends fit in a section. If you've set per-thread warp spacing, the plan uses the resulting calculated EPI; otherwise it uses the project sett.
A Section Width defined (see below) — required. Without it the report won't run.

Setting Up the Sectional Beam
The plan needs to know how wide one section of your beam is. You set this once, per project:
Open Project Info (Project tab).
Find the Sectional Beam group.
Enter your Section Width and choose the unit — in or cm.
Set this to the spacing between your beam's pegs — the finished width of one wound section (commonly 1 in / 2 in on US beams, or in cm on metric beams).
If you leave Section Width at 0, TempoWeave treats the project as not using a sectional beam, and trying to print the plan shows: "Section Width must be defined in Project Info for this report." Set a width and try again.
Floating selvedges
Also in Project Info, the Floating Selvedge options (Right thread 1 / Left last thread / Double) add selvedge ends to your warp. The Sectional Warping Plan includes these in the totals — so the ends-per-section and grand total reflect the selvedges you'll actually wind. When any are enabled, the report's header reads "Total warp ends (with selvedges)."
Printing the Plan
File menu (backstage) ▸ Print tab.
Click Print Sectional Warping Plan.
It generates a PDF using your current Print Options (paper size, orientation, etc. — see below).
Reading the Report
A summary line at the top states the plan at a glance:
Section width: 2 in • Sett: 24.0 EPI • Ends per section: 48 • Sections: 10 • Total warp ends: 480
Below it is the winding table, with these columns:
Section
Which beam section this row belongs to (1, 2, 3 …).
Name
The yarn's name (from your palette), if you've named your yarns.
Color
A colour swatch so you can grab the right cone at a glance.
Wind
How many ends of this color to wind in this section, in order. (With multi-color winding on, this is shown as wraps — see below.)
Cumulative Ends
A running total of ends wound so far — a quick check that you're on track.
Each section's rows are followed by a section-total spacer row, and the report ends with a TOTAL ENDS line so you can confirm the whole warp is accounted for.
To wind: work top to bottom. Each block of rows under a Section number is everything that goes onto that section, in the order to wind it; when you reach the next Section number, move the rack to the next peg group.
How the Plan Is Calculated
So you can sanity-check the numbers:
Ends per section = sett (ends per inch) × section width in inches, rounded to the nearest whole end. (A cm section width is converted to inches first.)
Total warp ends = your warp ends + any floating-selvedge ends.
Number of sections = total warp ends ÷ ends per section, rounded down — so the plan never asks you to wind past the end of the warp.
Leftover ends (the remainder that doesn't divide evenly) are spread evenly across the sections: every section gets a share, and the first few sections each take one extra. This guarantees every warp end lands on the beam — sections may differ by a single end, which is normal and keeps the warp width correct.
In short: each section is filled to about the same width, the colour order always follows your draft, and nothing is left over or overshot.
Multi-Colour Winding (Winding a Bundle)
If you wind several ends together as a bundle (holding 2–4 cones at once), turn on Warp Winding Color Pattern in Print Options and set the number of colours (2–4).
The plan then treats one wrap — one pass with all the cones in your hand — as the indivisible unit:
A single wrap (N ends, one of each colour you're holding) won't be split mid-wrap across two sections.
Multiple wraps of the same pattern can still split across sections.
If the next whole wrap won't fit, the section closes a touch short and the following sections absorb the difference, working to the overall target — so the totals still come out exactly right.
This matches how you actually wind a bundled warp at the rack: you never break a wrap partway.
Print Options That Apply
The plan honors your current Print Options:
Paper size and orientation (Portrait / Landscape).
Continuous page — render as one long page instead of paginating (handy for long warps).
Show Report Name / Show Document Title / Page Numbers in the header/footer.
Warp Winding Color Pattern (2–4) — the bundle/multi-colour winding described above.
Show Variegated Yarns — variegated yarns render with their colour blend in the swatch rather than a flat colour.
Tips
Match Section Width to your beam. The plan is only as accurate as this number — set it to your actual peg spacing.
Set your sett before printing. Ends-per-section comes straight from the sett; if you change EPI, reprint.
Slightly uneven sections are expected. The even leftover distribution means some sections hold one more end than others — that's intentional and keeps the total warp width correct.
Name your yarns (in the palette / Yarn Catalog) so the Name column is meaningful at the rack, especially when several colours look similar.
Winding a bundle? Turn on the Warp Winding Color Pattern so the counts come out in whole wraps.
For a plain (non-sectional) beam, use Print Warp Winding Plan instead — same color order, no section split.
